Verbal analogies exams are standardized psychometric assessment tests that give the employing organization info about a candidate’s general verbal sharpness and insight. Verbal analogy problems are designed for assessing a candidate’s ability to identify relationships between concepts, think logically and fluency in the English language. 3-Step Bridge Technique to Solve Analogy Problems

  • Step 1: Develop a strong bridge (connection/ relationship) sentence relating the words in the question pair. And the bridge should be as precise and clear as possible. 

  • Step 2: Use that established bridge with each choice of answer, insert them in place of the words in the question pair. 

  • Step 3: The answer or solution with the sentence that’s the most logical. If after performing Step 1 and Step 2, you still haven’t found the solution that works, it may be important to make adjustments in the bridge sentence.

For that, you should divide your allotted time on the basis of the number of parts in the test and assign equal time to each part. Else, you can also divide the allotted time per part based on the number of problems in that section.

In some cases, verbal aptitude and analogy exams conducted in evaluation centers may have a negative marketing system. It means that for every incorrect answer you provide, there will be some deduction in your final score. Thus, it’s imperative that you don’t predict the answer to any problem that you’re not certain of it. Instead, it’s better to leave that problem unanswered. 

  • Be aware of your strength and weaknesses 

Different candidates have different strengths. Some are good at mathematical analogies and some are good at reasoning analogies. You should aware of your strengths and then focus on your weaker areas. Practicing regularly can help you determine your strengths and weaknesses. 

  • Boost your vocabulary

When it comes to mastering analogy tests, you need to work on your vocabulary. You must read on a regular basis to improve the vocabulary.
