A, B, C, D and E play a game of cards. A says to B, "If you give me 3 cards, you will have as many as I have at this moment while if D takes 5 cards from you, he will have as many as E has." A and C together have twice as many cards as E has. B and D together also have the same number of cards as A and C taken together. If together they have 150 cards, how many cards has C got ?

Clearly, we have :

A = B - 3 ...(i)

D + 5 = E ...(ii)

A+C = 2E ...(iii)

B + D = A+C = 2E ...(iv)

A+B + C + D + E=150 ...(v)

From (iii), (iv) and (v), we get: 5E = 150 or E = 30.

Putting E = 30 in (ii), we get: D = 25.

Putting E = 30 and D = 25 in (iv), we get: B = 35.

Putting B = 35 in (i), we get: A = 32.

Putting A = 32 and E = 30 in (iii), we get: C = 28.

Hira has 30 bangles, 18 of which are pink and 12 of which are white. Saher has 20 bangles, all of them either pink or white. If the ratio of the pink bangles to the white bangles is the same for both Hira and Saher, then Hira has how many more pink bangles then Sahar?

Hira bangles ratio :

pink: white

18: 12

3:2

Saher are also with the same ratio as Hira

pink :white Total

3:. 2: 20

3 x + 2 x = 20 => 5 x 20 => X = 4

3 X = 3 (4 )= 12 pink bangles

Hira have: 18 - 2 = 6 bangles more than Sahar.

Look at this series: 2, 6, 18, 54, ...

What number should come next?

What number should come next?

This is a simple multiplication series.

Each number is 3 times more than the previous number.

The series is 2, 6, 18, 54, . . .

Rule = (1st number x 3 = 2nd number), (2nd number x 3 = 3rd number)....

Now

(2), (2 x 3 = 6), (6 x 3 = 18), (18 x 3 = 54), (54 x 3 = 162)...

So the answer is 162..

It's dark. You have ten grey socks and ten blue socks you want to put into pairs. All socks are exactly the same except for their colour. How many socks would you need to take with you to ensure you had at least a pair?

With three socks there is always a matching pair since. Either you will not have chosen three of the same color, or a matching pair and an odd one out..

In a class of 80 students 40 are taking French 20 are taking German. Of the students taking French or German 9 are taking both courses how many students are not enrolled in either course

German taking students:20

French taking students:40

Both taking students:9

= German + French - both

= 20 + 40 - 9

=51

= total student - enrolled student

=80-51=29

So 29 students are not enrolled.

In alphabet series, some alphabets are missing which are given in that order as one of the alternatives below it. Choose the correct alternative.

adb _ ac _ da _ cddcb _ dbc _ cbda

The series is adbc acbd abcd dcba dbca cbda.

Thus, the letters equidistant from the beginning and the end of series are the same.
